Is Your Organization Ready for Mandated Reporting?

Mandated Reporting Readiness Reflection

Organizations responsible for protecting children and vulnerable populations must ensure their mandated reporting systems are clear, supported, and understood across the organization.

This reflection tool is one component of the Mandated Reporting Readiness Audit, a structured process used to help leadership teams evaluate the clarity, alignment, and effectiveness of their reporting systems.

Leaders may use this reflection to begin considering how policies, training, and leadership support interact to shape reporting practices inside their organization.

Instructions for Completing the Readiness Review

Please review each statement and select the response that best reflects your organization’s current practices, not intentions or plans.

For each statement, choose one response option:

  • Mostly in place – This is generally clear, consistent, and supported across the organization. These responses suggest a strong foundation. Clear expectations, consistent practices, and leadership support are helping reduce uncertainty and professional risk when mandated reporting concerns arise.

  • Partially in place – Some elements exist, but clarity, consistency, or support may vary. These responses are common and often signal areas where expectations, training, or leadership guidance may be uneven. Even small gaps can increase uncertainty or liability for professionals and organizations when real situations occur.

  • Unclear / Not yet – Expectations, processes, or supports are not clearly established or consistently applied. These responses highlight opportunities to strengthen clarity, consistency, and support. When systems are unclear or underdeveloped, mandated reporters and leaders may be left navigating responsibility and risk without adequate guidance.

There are no right or wrong answers, and responses are not scored or evaluated.

As you move through the questions, consider:

  • Where  your staff may feel uncertain or unsupported
  • Where  leadership guidance or systems could reduce risk
  • Where clearer alignment could better protect both children and professionals
